ABOUT

From a very early age I was captivated by photography, not just as an art form but how an image could effectively change how you feel/think. I guess the saying is true..."a picture is worth a thousand words".

When I was younger I was surveying my local library for something interesting to read; to be honest I didn't really know what I was looking for, I just knew I was looking for something... All of a sudden this "Edward Weston" photography book, filled with black and white images of trees and rocks at Point Lobos, California, jumped off the shelf  - I think that book was just waiting for me. The photography was simply stunnning and so creative/imaginative. From the moment I turned the very first page I was captivated and drawn into Weston's photographical world. The imagery instantly changed how I viewed the world around me. My passion and enthusiasm for the art form were defined in that very moment and I could not wait to get my hands on my first camera & take my very first shot.

The way Weston, now considered "one of the most innovative and influential American photographers", captured inanimate objects, landscapes, still lifes, nudes & portraits with such consideration, passion and focus struck a chord with me. He turned ordinary objects and people into things of beauty, desire,  giving them life, purpose and function. The pictures were literally jumping off the pages, they were so powerful and beautiful. From that very moment I was hooked!

Although my style is very different to the one that originally inspired me, my passion and enthusiasm for the art form is still as brilliant as the moment I opened that book. I love the fact that photography allows me to embrace my other passion for music at the same time. It's like having the best of both worlds. I would also name Pennie Smith as a major influence; her photography throughout the 70's era of punk rock and specifically her photograph of The Clash's Paul Simonon smashing his bass guitar on the stage in New York City during a 1979 tour confirmed everyting for me.

To date I have toured all over Europe with various bands/artists/labels and I love the fact that I feel part of the perfomance. I feel empowered that I am the one responsible for capturing the gig and magic that occurs. I believe this comes across in my photography. Take a "Tour" of my site and get in touch if you like what you see...
